A Personalized Approach to Nourishment

Is nutrition and wellness counseling right for you?

You are what you eat.  Nutrition counseling is appropriate for many people with many different types of symptoms, conditions, and situations.  A nutritionist can help you to manage your weight (loss, gain, or stabilization) in a healthy way, provide you with complementary services to medical care for illnesses, teach you to prepare or obtain healthy meals, and help you improve your overall lifestyle and health.  Proper nutrition may help lower your risk for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, elevated cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other conditions.  Nutritionists can help you make choices around herb, vitamin, and other nutritional supplements, and help you determine which (if any) supplements may be appropriate for you.  A nutritionist can help you figure out for your own body what foods and food combinations are best for you based on your current health condition, tastes, budget, health history, and risk factors.

Is somatics counseling right for you?

Generative Somatics is an integrative approach using body-centered awareness, hands-on techniques, and somatic practices to create lasting change.  From the Somatics and Trauma website:

"Working with trauma through the psycho-biology is a powerful way to move from managing traumatic symptoms to transforming trauma and your life. Transforming trauma includes being able to change the deep reactions that linger long after traumatic experiences-- the fight, flight, freeze and dissociative responses which emerge automatically to protect us. While these responses are initially life saving, they tend to create havoc over time. Through Generative Somatics people are able to learn presence and boundaries and re-establish connection with themselves, others and community. They are able to connect with what gives their life meaning and growth and leverage their resilience to live that."

Most of us have experienced some form of trauma over the course of our lives.  And because we are inborn with the capacity for empathy, when we see bad things happening to "people like us" (whether that be others of our gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, or other factors), our bodies learn to internalize that fear, even if the trauma never happened to us directly.  Generative somatics is a series of techniques to help clients learn to be more fully and comfortably in their bodies and to heal and resolve trauma as a path towards greater comfort, health, and confidence.  Sessions may include exercises to increase your ability to be present in your body, exercises geared towards helping you learn how to set better boundaries or ask for what you need, hands-on body work to help relax places in the body that have tightened or contracted, and discussion and exercises to help you better access your own strength and resilience.  Somatics work helps us gain greater access to our passion, to what we love most, in order to find our strength and be able to take action around what we care about most deeply.

What makes Food Fairie Nutrition and Wellness Services special?

Personalized Attention

Many mainstream diets and food philosophies assert that if we all just followed their specific plans, we'd all feel better.  However, what helps one person may have no effect on another, and may even harm a third.  At Food Fairie Nutrition and Wellness Services, I view each client as an individual, with unique goals, background, genetics, health history, budget, lifestyle, and tastes.  Each client gets a plan uniquely shaped to their needs, and the pacing, content and tone of each session will reflect this individuality as much as their overall wellness plan will.

Areas of Expertise

My four main areas of expertise include:

  • Insulin Resistance and related diseases, especially Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and Diabetes
  • Digestive Disorders (Crohn's disease, Celiac Sprue, Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and others)
  • Autoimmune Disorders (Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, and others)
  • Stress Management, and the health impacts of trauma and oppression on the body, heart, and community

Other areas I work with include allergies (food and environmental), addiction, healthy (and sane!) weight management, pregnancy and breast feeding, hormone balancing, thyroid disorders, hypoglycemia, chemical sensitivities, migraines and headaches, complementary support for cancer, and illness prevention.

What can I expect from a nutrition session with Food Fairie Nutrition & Wellness Services?

My services are individualized to meet each client's unique needs, situation, health, and interests.  The first session will mainly consist of an intensive health assessment, exploring your current health conditions, health history, current medications, eating history, and current lifestyle.  We will also start to identify what your goals are for improving your health.  Subsequent sessions may address specific conditions, goals, or areas of interest.  Clients leave each session with specific and attainable short and long term goals.

My services include:

  • Individualized advice on food choices, herbs, and supplements
  • Natural techniques for improving and supporting optimal health
  • Allergy and Sensitivity Elimination Reprogramming Technique
  • Teaching natural and holistic management skills for dealing with illnesses and health conditions
  • Stress Reduction, including instruction in breathing techniques, meditation, scheduling for a healthy life, and goal-setting.
  • Somatics work, looking at the intersections between an individual's health, history, emotional well-being, and social context with an eye towards improving health, restoring dignity, accessing resilience, and finding greater ease and comfort in moving through the world.
  • Guided imagery
  • Organ Reflex Analysis and Muscle Testing techniques
  • Lab work analysis
  • Patient Advocacy: getting the most from your doctors and other health care providers
  • Menu planning and cooking instruction for special diets

At my clinic I have access to additional technologies, tests, and techniques such as Meridian Stress Assessment (electro-dermal testing which allows us to explore allergies and sensitivities, toxicity, and health history in a more comprehensive way), Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis (a method of determining body composition), low level laser therapy, ionic detoxifying footbaths, and more.

I stress wellness at all sizes, ages, and levels of ability, and help clients learn to live fully and well in their bodies.

I can help guide you towards making the kinds of healthy choices that are right for you, tailored to fit your personal interest, budget, social context, health concerns, and style of living.

I am also available to teach classes and workshops for groups, businesses, and organizations.  Class types may range from 1-3 hour workshop formats to twelve week ongoing healthy living intensives.  Subjects may include basic nutrition, family meal planning, healthy weight management, holistic stress management, or individualized classes designed by request.  Contact me for more information or to discuss class ideas.

I am currently running an ongoing FirstLine Therapy (TM) program in Santa Clara through Wellness Revolution Health Center.  This program utilizes a combination of lecture/support group-style classes alongside ongoing individual consultation and monitoring to help clients reach health and wellness goals.  Classes can be attended as single classes or you can sign up for the full 12 week cycle.  Contact me for more information about classes.

While I will occasionally see private clients if there are compelling reasons why coming to the clinic will not work for a client, I am primarily working out of Wellness Revolution Health Center in Santa Clara.  To schedule an appointment with me at Wellness Revolution, contact the clinic at 408-296-6133.  Wellness Revolution Health Center is at 545 Saratoga Ave, Suite D, Santa Clara, CA 95050.  Please note: if you schedule to see me through the clinic, you will need to be seen briefly first by Dr. Michael Pierce, DC.  Dr. Pierce is a wonderful and skilled healer and I encourage clients to see both of us for best results.  You do not have to see the Doctor in order to work with me, but you will need to do an intake with him to work with our clinic.  If you feel that you need to see me outside the clinic, please email or call me on my cell and we can discuss availability and options.
